Who are we?
CAFÉ CHESS is an initiative created by members of Drogheda Chess Club. Drogheda Chess Club is one of Ireland's oldest chess clubs, in continuous existence for over 75 years. Currently the club has over 40 active members and a junior club. The club has considerable experience with organising chess events both for competitors and for the public.
The clubs hosts The Drogheda Chess Congress - an annual competition running over 30 years that attracts hundreds of players from all over the country and the world. Recently in July 2024, the club organised Ireland's only contribution to a world-wide Guinness World Record attempt for the most chess games played globally in one day.
